2009 Event Info

Thank you everyone for your help, time, donations and participation in the Kick-Off event for JDRF hosted by Firestone Diversified Products on September 3, 2009, at 250 West 96th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
This year, participation doubled due to the opening of the Automotive Show to other automotive enthusiast outside of Firestone’s Office. There was a total of 40 entries into the show. Trophies were awarded for Best Car, Best Truck, Best Motorcycle, Best Daily Driver, Best Special Interest/Other, Best of Show, and JDRF’s Pick. Awards for the auto show were donated by the Gauge Store and the goodies for the auto show were donated by Sinister Autosports and Lou Raykovich an Independent Amsoil dealer. Side items where donated by McDonalds for lunch.
There was a lunch at the event for a donation of $5.00.  Lunch included a pulled pork sandwich, 2 sides, and a drink.
The dunk tank fundraiser involved 5 Firestone teammates.  Fellow teammates made a
donation for so many balls to try and dunk each of the 5 dunk tank participants.

There was a raffle the week prior to the event to have the CEO’s of Firestone wash teammate’s cars. The CEO’s washed 10 cars total the day of the event and at least one teammate had way too much fun with having the kids smear mud all over the truck.

Prior to the event, there was a silent auction for 10 rides in a two person IndyCar that is street legal. The day of the event the winners enjoyed a 15 minute ride in the race car.
As an extra surprise to everyone, the event also had IndyCar Series driver Tomas Scheckter and Firestone Indy Lights drivers Ana Beatriz (the first woman to win a Firestone Indy Lights race) and Sebastien Saavedra appear at the event and sign autographs and take pictures.
Thanks to our volunteers, the businesses for their donations and the lunch and all the participants in it.  Firestone raised $3,000 for JDRF with this kick off event.
